Glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration are the most common causes of vision loss, often robbing sight with no warning. There are some foods that might help.

Protecting your vision can start in an unexpected place, your plate. One serving a month of kale and collard greens or two or more servings a week of carrots can cut your risk of glaucoma by 60 percent. Carrots are an excellent source of beta carotene.

You can cut your risk of cataracts 45 percent by drinking orange juice daily and eating foods rich in vitamin C. That includes red and green bell peppers, tomatoes and broccoli. Egg yolks also contain antioxidants that can reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration.

Complex carbs like oatmeal, high-fiber cereals and whole-grain breads can reduce your risk of macular degeneration by 39-percent. Taking a combination of vitamins B-6, B-12 and folic acid has also been shown to decrease your risk of age-related macular degeneration.
